Let Them Eat Cake

This summer EveryDay Life (EDL) co-founders Tosh Berman and Amrou Manaseer opened Cake Nightclub in the Gas Lamp District of San Diego, CA. The venue features lighting design by Steve Lieberman of SJ Lighting and a Funktion-One sound system designed by Dan Agne and Sound Investment. Modeled as an abandoned French chateau meets Alice In Wonderland, the 6,000 square foot two-level venue features a main room and mezzanine with antiqued whitewashed wood, crystal gold chandeliers, and hand-tooled leather banquets.

The lighting design features various Harman Martin Professional products from their RUSH line, including 16 RUSH MH 1 profiles, five RUSH MH 4 beams, and four RUSH MH 2 washes, as well as 12 Martin Tripix fixtures and three Martin Tripix Power iP66 240W units.

Lighting also includes 11 Elation Professional Sniper 2R units and 10 Protron LED Strobes as well as Flex Pixel Driver and Flex Pixel WP14 for pixel tape. An MA Lighting grandMA2 onPC command wing with an onPC fader wing is used for control.

The Baroque era-inspired DJ booth features a 30′ translucent LCD display. Performers dance behind the screens while LED lights interact with the movement and light the corridor.

The Funktion-One sound system loudspeakers include two F315s, four AX88s, and seven F81s with four subwoofers from the Bass Reflex range. The system also include a custom mid/hi speakers.
